Possibilities of Escape

HIKES, SIGHTS, AND STROLLS
AROUND KANAB, UTAH

National Parks & Monuments

“There is nothing like a wilderness journey for rekindling the fires of life. Simplicity is part of it. Cutting the cackle. Transportation reduced to leg – or arm – power, eating irons to one spoon. Such simplicity, together with sweat and silence, amplify the rhythms of any long journey, especially through unknown, untattered territory. And in the end such a journey can restore an understanding of how insignificant you are and thereby set you free.” ~Colin Fletcher

Don't Leave Kanab, Hike Local

There's nothing like a staycation. Many of Quiet Shelter's guests end up maximizing their time at the Adobe and Log Cabin homes for a creative reprieve from the hustle of everyday life. The good news is you can pop out for a quick or medium length hike right here in Kanab. Below are our favorites but there are many. Our in home guidebook has a comprehensive list.

Bucket List worthy

"It is a paradox rooted in the dream that many of us share of immersing ourselves so deeply, so inextricably, into a pocket of landscape, or a stretch of river - anything that seems to embody the wildness we have lost - that we may somehow take possession of those places and make them ours. Yet the truth, like an eddy, runs in the opposite direction.
In the end, it is they that claim us. And we who belong to them.” ~Kevin Fedarko

Cool off

In the desert, the two primary elements are stone and water. Stone comes in abundance, exposed by weathering and a lack of vegetation. It is a canvas. Water crosses this stone with such rarity and ferocity that it tells all of its secrets in the shapes left behind. ~Craig Childs
